With in-county design consultations, delivery, and installation, you’ll get beautiful, durable furniture without the wait or markup of big-box retailers.
Clinton County was officially formed on June 21, 1839, from parts of Lycoming and Centre counties, amid spirited debates over its name. Originally proposed as “Eagle County,” it was ultimately named in honor of New York Governor DeWitt Clinton, a key promoter of the Erie Canal. Lock Haven, chosen as the county seat, had been laid out in 1833 and incorporated in 1840; its name reflects the canal locks that once linked the borough to the West Branch Susquehanna River. Early settlers—mostly Pennsylvania Germans and Scotch-Irish—established sawmills, tanneries, and iron furnaces, leveraging the county’s vast timber resources and waterways. Over the 19th and early 20th centuries, Clinton County evolved into a hub for lumber, paper mills, and manufacturing, while communities like Renovo and Mill Hall flourished along rail lines and riverbanks. Today, the county balances its industrial heritage with outdoor recreation in Sproul State Forest and cultural events in Lock Haven’s historic downtown.
